Flu bug caught me and my bug!

A couple of weeks ago we were not so lucky to catch the stomach flu that had been floating around.  While it had been in school for a while I hadn't had a single kiddo out sick with it until a couple weeks ago.  Two kids were gone Thursday with it and it hit me like a train on Friday night.  We had a couple friends over to enjoy the ISU vs. Iowa game and while I thought my stomach was just that upset due to the outcome of the rivalry I was sorely mistaken.  In reality at first I associated it with lunch ordered and some not so good choices in food throughout the day, but by 2 a.m. I had thrown up about four times and from about 2-3:30 it was nonstop.  Which led to me being miserable, tired and of course overly emotional and freaking out. Jordan stayed calm and tried his best to comfort me, but the smell of alcohol from him celebrating the big ISU victory with friends was not helping.  So I sent him back to bed and enjoyed the snuggling company of Teddy who spent the entire night curled up sleeping on the bathroom floor next to me.  We seriously have the best puppy dog in the whole world!  By about 9 the next morning I was beginning to freak out about what this was all doing to little Puff.  I had Jordan call first nurse and they requested to talk to me.  I held it together while talking on the phone until she told me we needed to head to the emergency room.  Now the rational person can figure out it is okay they just need to check you out and check your fluids.  to the person who is exhausted in pain and emotional it is a death sentence to which I was bawling about.  Then denial set in and I told Jordan I was going to drink a little water and if I got sick in the next 30 minutes we would go right in otherwise we would call back if I could keep fluids down (I am not a big fan of hospitals or needles or anything and I was trying to avoid it). Well needless to say about 10 minutes later we were heading out the door barf bag in hand.

Up to the OB floor and into bed with a now pink barf bucket.  We were lucky enough to have a nurse that we went to high school with and she was great.  You all know how much I love needles so when it came time to get the iv's I was happy I had absolutely nothing left to throw up being as it took three attempts and three people to tap into my shrunken veins.  Three bags of fluid and a nap and a visit from my mama later we headed out of the hospital.  Nurse Jordan stopped to fill a prescription and get me some Gatorade.  We picked Teddy up from Roland an he of course snuggled up to me and we slept most of the way home and pretty much all night.  Sunday I felt a million times better just extremely tired and then Monday it was back to school to kick off the long pre-Christmas break week.

Looking back we were blessed that this bug hit on the weekend so that Jordan was around to take care of me.  We got to hear our little chap's heart beat again and that is always fun.  My mom got to hear it too!  I also found out just how good of a nurse Jordan can be, he will definitely be helpful when it comes to puking kids :)
