Yesterday Jordan and I went to Cedar Falls to gather some supplies for some DIY projects I have and to go to the movie 42 (which was awesome!). Well of course my trip into Hobby Lobby and TJ Max took a little longer than anticipated and luckily I have an extremely patient husband who went and got gas, stopped at another store or two, and then patiently followed me around Hobby Lobby while I spent way to much time deliberating on paint colors for the project! Anyway all that extra time spent making these imperative decisions caused us to miss the original matinee (cheap) movie. So we had time to kill and being as it was 20 degrees warmer in Cedar Falls we decided on a walk around UNI Campus.
We had to laugh at many fond memories and cringe about a few miserable professors/classes. We walked by some places we fondly spent time "socializing" and of course studying. Places where we remembered lazy saturday mornings when you got up with your friends and rehashed the nights previous events over a slice of cold pizza in the fridge (or for Jamie and I it was always mac and cheese with a diet coke as soon as 11 hit and it was okay to eat lunch). Jordan had many fond memories of working on campus grounds crew. I simply thought about missing the good old days of stealing from Lindsay, Addie, and Jamie to create the perfect outfit. We remembered the night I came home from Japan and we pulled an all nighter talking and catching up from the past 3 months (my sushi eating, the amazing kids, trips to the beach, festivals, Mt Fuji; Jordan's 21st bday, getting the braces off, teaching Dayton to ride a bike). Going to the GBPAC for a Christmas date was another high light (at least for me). The night a bunch of us stayed up naming all the capitals. The "Oven debacle" of 2008! It was almost like I got a little homesick while walking around thinking about the amazing memories we shared there.
Then we started thinking about now and our future and realized how blessed we have been to find a new home. We both have jobs we love. Many new wonderful friends we now socialize with. I laughed when I thought about what life will be like in another 4 years. We will probably be reminiscing about having the luxury to just pick up and go to a movie and do whatever we feel like on a random Saturday afternoon. Anyway, we decided while we had a fantastic four years in Cedar Falls, we have had a wonderful four years since, and we are excited to see what is in store for the next four or forty years!
