This weekend we took a short trip. Well, it was only a few days, but the drive was plenty long :) We packed our bags, sent Teddy to Story City, and hit Highway 20 headed to Indianapolis to visit the one and only Grant. We didn't take off until late Thursday afternoon. Our spirits were high, we had some good tunes cranked, and eventually my bladder was full and the tank was low so we made a pit stop, then another one for food, another one for the bladder and so on. We made it to my brother's place after touring the city in the pitch black (*enter explicit* GPS). The next day Grant had to work but Jordan and I set off to take in the city. We walked down the Monon trail to an area known as Broad Ripple and enjoyed a wonderful brunch on the blue and pink porch of an old victorian home renovated into a restaurant. YUM! Then Jordan supported my habit of milling in and out of a few gift shops and we managed to make it back towards the apartment with only one small paper sack and a minuscule dent in the wallet. (If anyone needs a gift idea for my husband ever, you can buy him a joke book, that is how he stayed entertained for quite a while in one of the shops). Then we got back in the car and crossed our fingers that GPS would in fact get us to Hinkle Field House. It did and when we walked in my husband, who will undoubtedly be good at embarrassing our children someday, yelled out, "Hickory!" apparently its from the movie Hoosiers. The final stop on our tour for the day was the Indianapolis Art Museum. They had some wonderful paintings and sculptures inside and 100 acres of gardens full of God's art :) We strolled the trails taking in the beautiful flowers and fountains. We met up with Grant and a friend for a few drinks. Then we enjoyed some pizza on a rooftop. We ended the night along the canal listening to live music enjoying the wonderful weather and each others company.
Saturday we slept in then had an early lunch then headed toward downtown. We toured the NCAA Hall of Fame. Strolled up and down the Canal. Took in the war Monuments and did some reading and observing at the Museum located inside one of the monuments. We finished our downtown tour by the circle center and watched a bike race go whizzing by a few times. Then we grabbed an appetizer and went to watch the Indianapolis Indians (so creative) play some baseball. While at the game Jordan may have "Iced" Grant, which may have been one of the highlights for Jordan.
Sunday after Jordan and I finished working on some stuff for grad-school we hit up a bagel shop and then took off to The Racing Capital of the world! Now neither of us are racing fans, but we actually both found it interesting. The "brick yard" (learned that on my tour) is huge!!!!! I mean really huge, and it is amazing to think about how long it has been around. Then we relaxed at the pool and finished the night by going to the movie World War Z (it was better than I thought, but I still wouldn't recommend it).
Monday morning we said our good-byes as Grant headed off to work and Jordan and I headed out for a run on the trail before our day in the car. It was a great run minus how hot and humid is was already. Then we grabbed a coffee and some breakfast and hit the road. We scheduled a pit stop in Davenport to visit a friend that had recently moved there and it was soooooo good to see her again. It was like she hadn't even left. We also got to meet one of her good friends that we had heard so much about. After another good-bye we hit the road to head to our baby. We picked Teddy up and enjoyed dinner with my parents before our final leg of the trip home. When we got home we unloaded the car and pretty much went to bed. It is amazing how sitting in a car all day can make you tired :) We had a great trip and the highlight was definitely the company we were in.
